Exploring Femininity

In preparation for my Monoprint and Linocut series of works exploring femininity, I talked to many people about what visual cues reminded them of femininity. Interestingly, a common thread in the responses was fabrics - lace, silk, cashmere, cotton, knit. By giving thick watercolor paper a fragrant English Breakfast tea bath over night, I prepared the paper for embossing with various fabrics including lace, cotton and burlap. The result was a robust feeling thick paper that appeared aged through the naturally varying color distribution from the tea and had the texture of fabrics that are associated with femininity. This paper adds to every print a unique feature. Photographs do not do justice to the tactile sensation of these pieces.
